Latter-day Saints for Biden-Harris on the Inflation Reduction Act

The Inflation Reduction Act is a significant win for Latter-day Saint families and for our country.

Today President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. Here are three reasons we see its passage as a significant win for our community:

Most importantly, the Inflation Reduction Act creates the next generation of jobs in clean, local, renewable energy. It thus helps preserve our shared world for the next generation and generations to come while making us more energy independent and resilient to the price shocks that come with fossil fuels. It is the largest such investment in our county’s history and also includes assistance for the drought currently impacting the US Southwest.

What’s more, the Inflation Reduction Act puts money back into families’ pockets by making it easier for seniors to get their prescriptions and for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and anyone without employment-based health insurance to purchase coverage.

Finally, the Inflation Reduction Act makes our tax system fairer, making sure that our largest corporations are paying something, that working families and single adults get their returns processed faster, and that wealthy cheats will have a harder time flouting the law of the land.

We are proud of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and the Democratic Senators and Representatives and their staffs who helped get this extraordinary act across the finish line. We are disappointed that every single Republican in Congress — including Senators Lee, Romney, and Crapo — voted against it.

By their fruits, we know them.

Windmills in a rural area
Collecting energy here at home instead of having to buy it elsewhere? That’s a win.
