On the Confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson
History made.
With Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s bipartisan confirmation, the Supreme Court is gaining a brilliant legal mind who has also exhibited character and integrity throughout a sterling career. Justice Jackson’s experiences at all levels of the justice system and her depth of legal experience means she will make an immediate contribution to the working of the Court. She is the first Black woman, and only the third African American jurist, appointed to the Court in its 233 years of existence.
We thank all of the individuals and groups who have supported Justice Jackson in the weeks since her nomination, a breadth that includes the Fraternal Order of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, former BYU General Counsel Judge Thomas Griffith, domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, and over 2,000 leaders of religious and faith-baised organizations. Her conduct during the hearing was even praised by the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal.
The daughter of parents who were the first in their families to attend college, the graduate of a public high school, Justice Jackson has shown throughout her life and career that she takes her pledge “to support and defend the Constitution and this grand experiment of American democracy” most seriously. We congratulate Justice Jackson on her confirmation. Today is a great day for our country.
